At the HUNIG Conference in Šibenik, held from 5 to 7 October 2026, PICO FLOW CONTROLS d.o.o. presented a technical paper entitled “Mobile System for the Management, Compression and Transportation of Natural Gas Under Pressure”, exploring opportunities to improve the efficiency of natural gas management during maintenance, pipeline reconstruction and tie-in operations.
Mobile KPPP + MEGC Solution
Regulation (EU) 2024/1787 on the reduction of methane emissions in the energy sector introduces requirements to reduce the venting and flaring of natural gas during maintenance, overhauls, interventions, pipeline tie-ins and other operational activities. A particular challenge lies in the safe management of gas from isolated sections of the gas system while simultaneously reducing losses and maintaining operational continuity.
To address this challenge, we have developed a mobile system integrating the KPPP compressor unit and the MEGC system. KPPP enables the controlled recovery, recompression, and return of natural gas from an isolated section of the gas system to the active network, while MEGC (Multi-Element Gas Container) enables its temporary storage and road transportation.
By combining KPPP and MEGC, a mobile, or virtual, gas pipeline can be established, allowing gas to be recovered, compressed, transported and reused at the end user’s location without the need for a permanent physical connection to a conventional gas pipeline.
The integrated KPPP + MEGC system can increase the volume of gas retained and recovered for reuse, reduce gas losses and methane emissions, and improve the flexibility and safety of operational activities, particularly when conventional gas infrastructure is unavailable or temporarily out of service.
