PICO FLOW CONTROLS d.o.o.

Work location: Sv. Križ Začretje/Zagreb

We are looking for an experienced engineer to take on a key role in the design and development of firmware and embedded software for critical industrial systems, ensuring high reliability and optimal performance of our products.

Who We Are?

PICO FLOW CONTROLS d.o.o. (PFC) is a regional engineering and manufacturing company with 30 years of experience in developing solutions for the energy sector, process industry, and industrial automation. Within our IT and R&D department, we design our own industrial devices (such as eLBC systems and RIKI calibration units) and manage the entire process – from design and in-house automated PCB assembly to the development of supporting software and applications.

Job Description

  • Software Design & Architecture: Projecting, developing, and maintaining firmware and embedded software in C/C++ independently, focusing on stability, performance optimization, and long-term code maintainability.

  • Hardware Integration: Developing architecture and implementing software solutions from the initial phase to integration and testing on target hardware (our own electronic components and devices).

  • Implementation of Communication Interfaces: Integrating protocols (SPI, I2C, CAN, UART) for stable communication with sensors, actuators, and industrial peripherals.

  • Technical Review & Collaboration: Participating in code and architecture reviews within the team and providing technical feedback to electronics engineers and the production plant.

  • Documentation & Version Control: Creating precise technical documentation and managing software revisions using version control systems (Git).

Technical Requirements & Qualifications

  • Work Experience: Multi-year, proven experience in embedded software/firmware development in C/C++.
  • Microcontroller Architectures: Deep understanding of the operation and architecture of platforms such as STM32, SAM, ESP, or related microcontrollers.
  • Communication Protocols: Excellent knowledge and hands-on experience with SPI, I2C, CAN, UART, and similar industrial standards.
  • On-Target Validation: Experience with initial firmware bring-up, debugging, and code validation on physical hardware.
  • Electronics Fundamentals: Ability to read and understand hardware schematics and knowledge of digital electronics fundamentals (essential for collaboration with our PCB assembly line).
  • Lab Equipment Proficiency: Hands-on experience debugging with tools such as JTAG, SWD, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers.
  • English Language: Proficiency in technical English, both written and spoken.

Bonus Points

  • Experience working with Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS – e.g., Zephyr, FreeRTOS), including resource management and task scheduling.

  • Familiarity with Linux environments and embedded Linux platforms.

  • Experience with EDA tools for PCB design (e.g., Altium, KiCad).

  • Practical soldering skills and SMD assembly capabilities.

What We Offer

  • Stability: Working in a stable, expert company with long-term experience providing innovative, safe, and high-quality services, technological solutions, and products in industrial electronics and the energy sector.
  • Impact: Active participation in innovative, complex, and technically challenging projects focused on developing our own industrial products and software systems.
  • Growth: Continuous education and professional development by tracking the latest technological trends and receiving a structured onboarding process into highly specialized systems.
  • Compensation: Competitive salary aligned with senior-level expertise, technical knowledge, and responsibilities.
  • Benefits: Christmas bonus, fully covered transportation costs, official mobile phone, and additional company perks.
